Career Highlights: A 16-year major league baseball veteran, Tino Martinez helped lead the New York Yankees to four World Series Championships in 1996, 1998, 1999 and 2000…During his career, Martinez hit .271 with 339 home runs and 1,271 RBIs…A two-time All-Star (1995 and 1997), Martinez won the 1997 Home Run Derby and was a Silver Slugger Award winner that same year…A first round draft pick of the Seattle Mariners in 1988 out of the University of Tampa, Martinez began his major league career in 1990 with the Mariners…He had his breakout season in 1995 when he drove in 111 runs, hit 31 home runs and batted .293…The Mariners clinched the American League West and went on to play the New York Yankees in divisional post season play winning in five games…Martinez was traded in 1996 to the Yankees to replace legendary first baseman and team captain Don Mattingly…Martinez did not disappoint as he spent five seasons at that time with the Yankees and was instrumental in all four World Series wins…His best statistical season came in 1997 when he was second in the American League in home runs and RBIs with 44 and 141, respectively…He also finished second in American League MVP voting…Following the 2001 season, Martinez joined the St. Louis Cardinals for two seasons and then spent a year with the Tampa Bay Devil Rays…Martinez returned for a second tour with the Yankees in 2005…From May 7 to May 11, 2005, Martinez hit five home runs in five straight games…Held homerless on May 12, 2005, he hit two more home runs on May 15 to give him eight home runs in eight games…During his seven years with the Yankees, Martinez hit 192 home runs and drove in 739 runs.
