Career Highlights: As head football coach of the Buffalo Bills, Dick Jauron just completed his third season with the team after prior head coaching stints with the Chicago Bears and Detroit Lions…Jauron was named the Associated Press Coach of the Year in 2001 while leading the Chicago Bears to a 13-3 record….His other 2001 NFL Coach of the Year honors came from the Sporting News, Professional Football Writers and Maxwell… A former standout athlete in Massachusetts, Jauron starred at Yale University and was named to the All-Ivy League First Team three times…Drafted by the Detroit Lions in 1973, he started at free safety as a rookie and was named to the 1974 Pro Bowl in his second season after leading the NFC in punt return average…He played with the Lions for five seasons and the Cincinnati Bengals for three before a knee injury ended his career…Jauron finished his playing career with 26 interceptions and two touchdowns… He began his coaching career in 1985 as Buffalo’s defensive backs coach and followed that with eight years with the Green Bay Packers and then four seasons in Jacksonville as defensive coordinator… Jauron became the 12th head coach of the Chicago Bears in 1999…He coached the Bears for five seasons (1999-2003) including leading the team to the greatest turnaround in team history during his third season…The Bears finished 13-3 including an 8-0 record in games decided by seven points or less…After two more seasons in Chicago, Jauron joined the Detroit Lions as defensive coordinator in 2004…He was named interim head coach of the Lions in November 2005 after the mid-season firing of Steve Mariucci…Jauron was named the head coach of the Buffalo Bills in January 2006…The Bills have finished each of the past three seasons with a 7-9 record, finishing third, second and fourth in the AFC East, respectively.
