Career Highlights: A hard-nosed, energizing forward for the Cleveland Cavaliers, Wally Szczerbiak is one of the most prolific shooters in the NBA….An offensive-minded player with an excellent perimeter touch, Szczerbiak was acquired by the Cavaliers from the Seattle Supersonics in a trade this past January…He played an integral part in helping the Cavaliers to the xxxxxxxxx of the 2008 NBA Playoffs…Drafted as the sixth pick in the 1999 NBA Draft by the Minnesota Timberwolves, Szczerbiak’s best year as a professional was in 2002 when he was a coaches’ selection to the Western Conference All-Star team…Later he tied a then Timberwolves franchise record of 44 points on April 13, 2003 (since broken by Kevin Garnett)…Szczerbiak spent seven and a half seasons in Minnesota, followed by short stints in Boston and Seattle the past two years…Throughout his nine-year career he has averaged 15 points per game, 4.1 rebounds per game and 2.5 assists per game…In college, Szczerbiak played for Miami University, where he led the team to the “Sweet 16” in the 1999 NCAA Tournament…During his senior year he was named a First-Team All-American by Sports Illustrated, John Wooden Basketball News, Basketball America, and College Hoops Insider and Second Team All-American by the Associated Press and the National Association of Basketball Coaches…He was also named the 1999 MAC Player of the Year…Szczerbiak finished his career at Miami of Ohio as the school’s second all-time leading scorer with 1,847 points (behind Ron Harper)…In his senior season he averaged 24.2 points per game (third in the nation), 8.5 rebounds and 2.9 assists…Szczerbiak was born in Madrid, Spain while his dad, Walter, was playing for Read Madrid…His dad also played for the Pittsburgh Condors of the ABA.
