Career Highlights: Through five NFL seasons, Terence Newman has quickly established himself as one of the NFL’s top young cornerbacks…Selected by the Dallas Cowboys as the fifth overall pick in the 2003 NFL Draft, Newman quickly established himself when he earned All-Rookie honors, tied for the league lead among rookies in interceptions and was named an alternate to the Pro Bowl all in his first professional season…Through five seasons he continues his ascension as one of the NFL’s finest all-around cornerbacks...Newman was voted to the 2008 Pro Bowl after recording four interceptions (tying career high), 50 total tackles, one touchdown, one forced fumble and 13 pass deflections last season…He started all 16 games his first four years in the league, before a torn plantar fascia in his right heal slowed him last season, yet he still played in 13 games…Newman has proven himself as one of the NFL’s top cover men with 16 career interceptions…Three of Newman’s interceptions last year were game-changing plays including one preserving a win against the Washington Redskins, another prevented a scoring drive from the Buffalo Bills which later allowed a winning field goal, and finally an interception for a touchdown against the New York Jets all but prevented any comeback attempt…Newman played college ball at Kansas State University from 1998-2002 and was possibly its most decorated defensive player in history…He was an All-American, was the Big 12 Conference Defensive Player of the Year and won the coveted Jim Thorpe Award as the nation’s best defensive back and was a finalist for the Bronko Nagurski Trophy as the nation’s best defensive player as a senior.
