Career Highlights: As a former college and pro football star, Joe Theismann was a 12-year NFL veteran…He played 163 consecutive games for the Washington Redskins from 1974-85 and led the Redskins to the 1983 Super Bowl title with a 27-17 win over Miami…Theismann was named the league’s MVP in 1983…He holds Redskins records for passing yardage (25,206), completions (2,044) and attempts (3,602)…He was selected the NFL’s Walter Payton Man of the Year in 1982 for his community service and dedication to the health and welfare of children…Theismann was named to the Pro Bowl in 1982 and 1983…Prior to the NFL, he was a Canadian Football League star for the Toronto Argonauts (1971-73)…An All-American at Notre Dame, Theismann led the Fighting Irish to consecutive Cotton Bowls…He still holds the Irish school record for most passing yards in a single games with 526 against USC in a torrential downpour in 1970… Runner-up to Jim Plunkett in the Heismann Trophy balloting, Theismann was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in 2003…Following his football career, Theismann spent two seasons as an NFL analyst for CBS Sports before moving on to ESPN….At ESPN he served as an NFL analyst and Sunday Night Football commentator for many years and also was frequently heard on ESPN Radio…In addition, he appeared in studio on Sunday NFL Countdown (1988-1997) and on Monday Night Countdown (1993-1997)…Recently, Theismann has worked Washington Redskins pre-season games on CSN…Theismann’s first television experience came in 1976 when he served as an analyst for University of Maryland basketball telecasts.
