Career Highlights: One of the most prominent and respected sportscasters, Al Michaels is perhaps best known for his broadcast of the 1980 Olympic hockey game between the United States and the Soviet Union…Often-called “The Miracle on Ice” game, it culminated in Michaels’ widely quoted catchphrase, “Do you believe in miracles? Yes!”…After nearly three decades with ABC Sports, Michaels joined NBC sports in 2006 as the play-by-play announcer of Sunday Night Football alongside John Madden…Michaels has won numerous awards during his career, including the Emmy Award for Outstanding Sports Personality (play-by-play host) five times, the NSSA Award from the National Sportscasters and Sportswriters Association three times (also was inducted into their Hall of Fame in 1998), and “Sportscaster of the Year” once each from the American Sportscasters Association and the Washington Journalism Review….Michaels is one of only two sportscasters to be a play-by-play voice or host for the championships of the five major American pro sports (Super Bowl, World Series, NBA Championship, Stanley Cup Finals and boxing including the Marvin Hagler-Thomas Hearns for the middleweight championship of the world)….He has also served as host for all three Triple Crown races and the Indianapolis 500…Michaels longest-running assignment was that of the lead play-by-play announcer on ABC’s Monday Night Football telecasts which he began in 1986…Michaels was awarded a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 2004.
